1. Arrival at the school
A.)
Reasons why you should be at least 30 minutes early.
B.)
Duties you need to perform before the meet is to start.
1) Check in with each schools coach.
a) Find out is this a closed book meet or an open book?
b) Find out how many levels are swimming. Do both teams have all members
swimming?
ie. Varsity Boys and Girls? JV
Boys and Girls? Etc.
c) If there are swimmers that will be getting their CIF time cut. d) If you have
watches,
starting system, pads, or buttons.
C.) Check the
pool for equipment.
1) Flags, starting blocks, lap counters, pick slips.
2) If the pool has a timing system, you should talk to the operator make sure
that they can run the system. If there is a problem

they get to fix it?
2. Meet with each team.
A.) Meet with each
team is very important.
1) When you meet with the team members, Welcome them to another year of high
school swimming, introduce yourself. Go over
the rules that need to be stated each meet. Suits and logos,
jewelry, make sure that you are at the blocks for each event
that they are
in.
2) explain the DO's
3) Ask that the team captains help with some of the newer swimmers to get to the
events on time.
4) Tell them that if they are DO'd that you
will explain the DO with them.
5) If they have
questions to feel free to ask you. Remember however you are NOT there to coach the
swimmer. Please refer that to
their
coach.
6) Go over the start sequence for them.
7) Remind the swimmers
of the new rules changes for this year. ie. backstroke entry into the water.
8) Ask if they have
any questions

Wish them Good Luck or Have a great meet.
3. Meet with the students at the scorers table.
A) Make sure that they
know what levels are swimming. Check to see if they know the scoring for this
meet.
B) Explain to the
table your pick slips. How you write DO's on the slips. They
don't need to know what the DO is for just that they
don't score that swimmer.
4. If there is an announcer, How are the meets events going to be announced.
5. Your meet will start on time if there are no problems. The pace for the meet is up to you. You can only go as fast as the swimmers and the events take. Relax enjoy yourself. High school swimming is highly competitive. Teams will be excited. You need to stay focused on the meet. Watch the pool. Anticipate problems and how you should solve them. Be organized. You are a Professional. Remember each time you do a meet at a school, you leave an impression. You leave the meet with good thoughts, coaches will remember. When the next official gets to the school, and You have left a good impression at that school; it helps for the next official.
